Université du Luxembourg

UL – Université du Luxembourg

Founded in 2003, the University of Luxembourg aims to deliver teaching, research and knowledge transfer at the highest-quality international level, and offers a range of high-quality programmes to suit the needs of the national and international labour market. The Faculty of Humanities, Education and Social Sciences is an institutional member of the IMISCOE network and includes the key research area “Migration and inclusive societies”. Two departments of the faculty are involved in the MIMY project.

The Department of Geography and Spatial Planning is devoted to the study of migration, regional planning and sustainable spatial development. Research activities follow different trajectories and paradigms of human geography and spatial planning, notably institutional and actor-centred approaches, theories in the context of chains, flows and networks, as well as approaches related to the cultural and spatial turn.

The mission of the also involved Department of Behavioural and Cognitive Sciences is to understand the individual and social implications of today’s societal challenges of globalization, digitalisation and demographic developments which are changing the way we live. Research topics such as individual and social development, family and culture, social care, inequality, and health are tackled by using knowledge of the social and behavioural sciences, as well as innovative inter-disciplinary approaches. The team hosts the Luxembourg National Contact Point of the European Migration Network (EMN), the National Focal Point of the European Agency of Fundamental Rights (FRANET), the National Contact Point for the EU programme ESPON (European Spatial Observation Network) and team members have rich experience in carrying out research projects in the area of migration, border studies and European territorial and social cohesion.

UL is the coordinator of the MIMY project and leader of the Work Package on Laboratories of reality: participatory and action research and the Work Package dedicated to the Project management and scientific coordination of MIMY. Moreover, UL will conduct case studies in Luxembourg.
