A Christmas Market Evening Walk in Szeged 2021

It was on a cold evening that I went for a walk to the city to see this year’s Christmas Market in Szeged, Hungary. I went there with my friend. First, we went to the Ferry Wheel on the Széchenyi square. It is huge, and although I have a phobia of heights, I pushed myself to ride it for the experience of it, and as a result I have written this photo essay. We went on the ride and took some pictures. My friend recorded a video of me being quite scared. We could see the cathedral from above and the entire city’s lights.

Then we bought mulled wine, it was white wine with orange essence. It was tasty and warm to fight the cold night. While drinking wine, we stopped at Dugonics square to take picture of the Deer Light in front of the Rectorate Building.

We arrived to Dom square, where the big cathedral is located. It was exactly 6 pm and the cathedral bell was ringing. The market is in the square itself with beautiful lights. The atmosphere is so warm and welcoming, it felt like it is Christmas already.

After that, we went through the market to see what kind of things people are selling: it ranges from handcraft, clothing, candies, and some ceramics. I even found a shop that sells crystals and jewellery. I bought myself a small amethyst necklace.

We went inside a small castle where they played live music, and we did some photos in the photo booth.

After visiting all the shops in the market, we went to a café called Sugar and Candy in Somogyi street to have hot chocolate, while chatting. It was such a nice evening.
